Role Purpose

The Junior Application Support & Developer will support and develop our internally developed business applications.

The role combines two key disciplines: application support and software development. The primary responsibility will be providing technical support for business and customer facing applications, investigating and resolving application, data and integration issues, and helping maintain their reliability and availability.

Alongside application support, the role will provide hands-on development capability, working with existing TypeScript, React and PostgreSQL codebases to diagnose defects, implement fixes and deliver smaller enhancements and integrations. Work with other technical teams to support the integration of applications with automated processes and platform services.

The Junior Application Support & Developer will also gain exposure to the Microsoft Azure and DevOps technologies used to deploy, monitor and operate applications.

Role Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day technical support for internally developed business applications and AI Stacks.

• Investigate, diagnose and resolve application incidents and technical issues.

• Troubleshoot issues across application code, data, APIs, integrations and hosting environments.

• Work with users to understand reported issues and determine appropriate resolutions.

• Analyse existing TypeScript, React and PostgreSQL, and other codebases to identify defects and potential improvements.

• Develop, test and implement application fixes and enhancements.

• Support application integrations and investigate failures between systems.

• Assist with application releases and deployments.

• Use application logging and monitoring information to troubleshoot faults and performance issues.

• Maintain application support documentation, technical documentation and operational runbooks.

• Follow appropriate development, change-management and security practices.

• Contribute to the continual improvement and development of the application estate.

Education and Experience Requirements

Essential

• A Computer Science degree, relevant technical qualification or equivalent practical experience.

• Experience or practical knowledge of software development and/or application support.

• Good technical knowledge of TypeScript and JavaScript, with experience or an understanding of React.

• An understanding of relational databases and SQL, ideally including PostgreSQL.

• The ability to understand existing application code, troubleshoot defects and implement straightforward fixes and enhancements.

• An understanding of web applications, REST APIs, JSON and system integrations.

• An understanding of Agile software development methodologies and the software development lifecycle.

• Good technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues across applications, data and integrations.

• An awareness of Microsoft Azure and cloud-hosted application environments.

• Ability to obtain the appropriate Security Clearance.

Desirable

• Experience with scripting or automation technologies, such as Python or PowerShell, would be advantageous.

• Familiarity with Git or equivalent source-control tooling.

• The ability to develop trusted relationships and work effectively with technical teams and business users.

• A commitment to continually developing technical skills in emerging technologies.

• The ability to work independently and proactively, whilst knowing when to seek support or escalate an issue.

• Good written and verbal communication skills.

• Willingness to work flexibly in response to changing organisational requirements.
