Infrastructure Engineer (Citrix)

The Role
The Infrastructure Engineer (Citrix) is responsible for the design, build, configuration, and ongoing improvement of enterprise Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops platforms, ensuring the delivery of secure, resilient, and high-performance digital workspace services.
The role focuses on the hands-on implementation and optimisation of Citrix infrastructure, translating architectural designs into stable, scalable operational solutions through standardised builds, best-practice configuration, and automation. Working closely with architecture, network, cloud, security, and end-user computing teams, the engineer supports reliable access to business-critical applications and desktops across on-premises and hybrid environments.
The Infrastructure Engineer plays a key role in maintaining platform stability, enhancing user experience, and driving continuous improvement across the Citrix estate to meet performance, security, and availability requirements.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for this role may include:
Lead hands-on implementation and configuration of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops infrastructure, including delivery controllers, storefronts, gateways, and supporting components.
Build, maintain, and optimise Citrix App and Desktop delivery platforms, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
Translate architectural and technical designs into secure, standardised, and supportable Citrix solutions.
Ensure Citrix environments align with enterprise standards, security policies, and operational best practices.
Collaborate with architecture, network, cloud, security, and EUC teams to deliver integrated digital workspace solutions.
Support the delivery of on-premises and hybrid Citrix environments, including cloud-hosted workloads where applicable.
Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and performance optimisation to ensure platform stability and positive user experience.
Contribute to automation and configuration consistency, reducing manual effort and improving operational efficiency.
Support critical business systems through proactive infrastructure engineering, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
Participate in incident resolution, problem management, and root cause analysis related to Citrix services.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, build standards, and operational procedures.
Contribute to platform lifecycle activities, including upgrades, patching, and technology refresh initiatives
Education and Experience Requirements
Required
Degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Strong, demonstrable experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops in an enterprise environment.
Working knowledge of ITIL-based service management and operational best practices.
Proven experience in a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer, EUC Engineer, or similar role supporting enterprise platforms.
Extensive experience building, configuring, and supporting Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, including:
Delivery Controllers
StoreFront
Citrix Gateway
Experience translating technical and architectural designs into secure, standardised, and supportable Citrix solutions.-
Proven experience delivering high-availability and resilient Citrix environments.
Strong understanding of Citrix security principles, access controls, and secure remote access solutions.
Experience working across on-premises and hybrid environments.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex Citrix performance and user experience issues.
Experience collaborating with architecture, network, cloud, security, and end-user computing teams.
Experience supporting business-critical applications and desktop services with a focus on stability, availability, and user experience.
Strong documentation skills, including creation and maintenance of build standards and operational procedures.
Desirable
Citrix certifications, such as:
CCA-V / CCA-D
CCP-V / CCP-D
Or equivalent Citrix certifications
ITIL Foundation certification.
Experience with On-prem implementation and management of Citrix environments
Exposure to automation and scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Citrix APIs).
Experience with profile management and user experience optimisation technologies (e.g. FSLogix, Citrix Profile Management).
Experience with monitoring and analytics tools (e.g. Citrix Director, ControlUp, or equivalent).
Experience working in large-scale or regulated enterprise environments.
Experience contributing to continuous improvement, platform optimisation, and technology refresh initiatives.
Exposure to VDI alternatives or coexistence platforms (e.g. Azure Virtual Desktop, VMware Horizon).
